Special Campus Memo: Andrew Choquette '00 Named Interim Chief Investment Officer
Andrew R. Choquette '00, Director of Investments for Grinnell College since 2014, has accepted the position of Interim Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
Andrew will lead the Investment team as CIO Scott L. Wilson '98 leaves Grinnell to become CIO of Washington University in St. Louis. We are grateful to Scott for all of his contributions over the past seven years and wish him well in his new position.
Andrew earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics at Grinnell, and received a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in finance and international business from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He has been selected by TrustedInsight for its current list of Top 30 Endowment Rising Stars nationwide.
Prior to joining the College, he held strategy and operating roles at Nike and Samsung, managed long-short equity and event-driven hedge fund investments at Credit Agricole's fund-of-funds, and worked in the restructuring practice of Ernst & Young Corporate Finance.
As Director of Investments for Grinnell College, Andrew has contributed greatly to the College's effective investment strategy and successful endowment growth. The annual return for fiscal year 2017 is 18.8 percent, bringing the endowment to a record-high value of $1.8 billion.
Andrew has been working closely and effectively with the Board of Trustees Investment Committee as he evaluates equity, fixed income, real assets, private, and absolute return opportunities. He also monitors relationships with existing investment managers and recommends new managers for investment.
In his new role, Andrew will evaluate global investment themes and strategies within equities, fixed income, real assets, and marketable alternatives, including portfolio overlay and hedging options. He also will monitor relationships with existing investment managers, and recommend new managers, portfolio allocations, and metrics.
The Investment Committee and I are grateful to have Andrew on board to provide leadership to this important area of the College.
