The Amy Jennings Young Professional Impact Award recognizes a young professional who demonstrates a dedication to creating a vibrant community that attracts and retains YPs.
Jovan Johnson prides himself in participating in the Greater Des Moines community, both civically and professionally. Des Moines has a continued problem with attracting, retaining and creating a welcoming environment for African Americans. Jovan combats this issue by connecting newly arrived African Americans in Des Moines to the existing African American community and the existing black young professional group. Jovan has also maintained a strong presence in community events both locally and statewide. He leads and supports events that center on black excellence, and he is involved in many different capacities pushing the agenda for African American natives and transplants to feel welcomed here in Des Moines.
